canada day

Yes, I say eh. AND I SAY IT PROUD!!!!

Happy Canada’s Day!! Just had to pop on quick to share a pic of these cuties. Off to make dinner now. Or not. I’m on vacation….so I can do whateeeeever I choose 🙂

Except I really need to make dinner. I have two hungry people looking to me for food. But the dishes!? Those can wait.

birthday planning

I said that I wasn’t going to go crazy. I think I even made a promise…

But then I went on Pinterest. It’s the devil I tell you!

I still don’t think that I am going to go super-crazy, but I can’t help but get just a tiny bit excited at the idea of planning any party, let alone my babes 1st birthday party. We are just going to have a few family and friends over for a backyard BBQ. See? That’s plain and simple, right? Buuuuut then I was thinking, the whole theme of a BBQ is kind of boyish. What’s girly about hamburgers? Not much. Know what would make it girlier? WATERMELON!

I am going to try and make that same half slice cake as her smash cake, and since we looove cookies around here those watermelon slices would be perfect. And thanks to all the other parties I have planned, I already have a stash of pink, green, and white paper lanterns that will make the backyard looks bright and cheery. See Jose??? I told you I would re-use them 🙂

And of course, what would be a party for my Bug without a few of our favourite little insects.

One of the main things that I wanted to incorporate into her party is the fabric from her weekly photo project. We are almost done (only 4 more weeks to go!), so I need to start cutting this fabric up and making some cute banners to hang around the fence. I think I will print out all the photos too and display them somehow. Still gotta figure that one out.

Off to enjoy this lovely weather! And by that I mean head to the mall to get out of the heat.

I guess me calling her Bug all the time has worn off on her, because now she has a bug of her own.

Meet Bugsy.

This ugly little big-eyed ladybug has pretty much not left my Bug’s hand since I bought it from Old Navy a couple weeks ago. I don’t usually fall for the random items near the cash, but there was a big sale on and the line-up was wrapped around the store. So I handed her the ladybug just to keep her occupied. Little did I know I was introducing her to her newest bff.

Of all the cute and cuddly stuffed animals I have bought her, it’s kind of sucky that she has choosen to love this one instead. It was a lesson learned for this mama…she is going to make her own choices, her own decisions. She isn’t going to always wear the clothes I picked out, or wear her hair the way I want her to. I guess I just didn’t think that it would start so early…

But it could be worse! I guess Bugsy isn’t so bad, especially when all cuddled up with my Bug. I think I better make a trip to Old Navy and grab another to have just in case this one doesn’t survive the washing machine…

my girl | 10 months

I always say it, but whenever I sit down to write one of these posts I can’t believe how fast time has flown! In 2 short months I will have a 1 year old!! I’m sad, yet also excited about the birthday party I get to plan. I keep telling everyone that I will keep it low key, but let’s be real. It doesn’t matter the occasion to me, I just get excited about decorations for any event. And my mind has already started to wonder for her “low key” party….

Sleeping: Sleeping has been pretty much the same, except with summer on it’s way the sun has been shinning right into her room in the morning. I’m pretty sure this is the reason she thinks that it’s totally suitable to start waking up around 5:30/6. We finally got a pull down shade for her room to go along with the curtains that are already there. It’s only been a couple days with them, but already there has been an improvement. She is getting closer to that 7am mark that I would prefer. We’ve even had a few raining mornings, and on those she likes to be extra nice and sleeps closer to 8! Thanks baby!

Body: At her last check up, whichwas just a couple weeks ago, she weighed in at 19 pounds. Her cousin weighs the same amount, but I swear it feels like Bug weighs about 5 pounds more than she does. She is only solid baby, complete with baby rolls which I love so freakin’ much. We started swimming lessons a month ago and seeing her cute baby-chub legs in her bathing suit just melts my heart! Oh, and she has 8 teeth now. I think that maybe 2 molars or eye teeth might be coming in, which I am not looking forward too. I hear those ones can be extra painful 🙁

Eating: She is still breastfeeding, but I’m not gonna lie, I am looking forward to the change of pace once she is a year and able to drink regular milk. It’s not that I don’t like breastfeeding, I am glad that I have done it, buuuuuuut it will be nice to be able to just throw some milk in a bottle and head out the door instead of having to worry about pumping a bottle or worrying about finding a place to breastfeed her (I’m not comfortable doing it in public). It will also be nice to share some of the responsibility with Jose, maybe give me some nights off 😉 As for food, she loves it. She will try anything, and likes to eat dinner with us, as long as she gets to try what we are eating too. It’s getting to the point where if I am eating, she will crawl over and stare me down, just waiting to see if I will share with her. She makes a cute puppy.

Mood: We have gone through some ups and downs these past months. I’m not sure the reason, but for about 3 weeks straight she was super clingy to me. So clingy that I couldn’t even put her down to play with her toys. She would instantly start bawling the second she realized she was being put down. I still don’t know why, but I’m glad that we have moved on from that and she is back to her happy chatty self. Especially the chatty part. This girl has her own language, which I could listen to all day. She tells some crazy stories.

Milestones: I swear, she is thisclose to walking. Everyday I think it’s going to happen, but hasn’t yet. She pulls herself up on furniture, and walks around it like it’s her job, but just won’t let go. There has been a couple times where I have seen her standing all on her own, but the second she realizes that she isn’t holding on to anything she sits down. I know I shouldn’t want to rush her growing up, but I am excited for her to learn to walk. I feel like is just opens a whole new world of adventures and exploring for her. But I guess it also means that she will get into a lot more….so ya…maybe it’s ok that she waits on the walking for now 😉

fabric pompom tutorial

I totally forgot about this post! I started it months ago, and it just caught my attention now sitting in the drafts column.

So here it is, the tutorial on how I created the fabric pom poms for Bug’s baptism. The photos are pretty self explanatory, but here as the basic steps:

1. Tie string or ribbon around a styrofoam ball, leaving enough string attached to hang once completed.

2. Cut out a crazy amount of 3″ fabric circles. For a 3″ ball, I used 1 metre of fabric. For the larger balls, (I can’t remember the exact size…6′ or 7″…) I used around 3.5 metres. Then follow the picture below…that’s just way easier then me trying to use words to explain what to do 🙂

3. Glue the pieces of fabric to the ball, starting in the middle and working your way out.

4. Repeat. A lot!

5. Ta-da!! It does take quite a bit of time, but the finish product looks super pretty 😉
